Dr. Lipman graduated from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and completed her Internal Medicine residency at University of Michigan Health System. She completed fellowship in Cardiology at Tufts New England Medical Center and Mount Sinai School of Medicine and fellowships in Geriatrics and Palliative Care at Mount Sinai. She is a graduate of the Montefiore-Einstein Certificate Program in Bioethics and Medical Humanities.

She now serves as Associate Director of the Montefiore-Einstein Center for Bioethics, Chief of the Bioethics Consultation Service, and Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Divisions of Geriatrics and Cardiology. The Bioethics Consultation Service is a multidisciplinary team of professionals who help health care providers, patients and families resolve ethical dilemmas.

She sees patients in the Montefiore-Einstein Heart Center Faculty Practice and on the inpatient geriatric hospitalist service. She teaches bioethics to a variety of learners focusing on bioethics consultation, communication skills, conflict resolution, surrogate decision making and caring for patients without capacity who refuse treatment. She is the recipient of a HRSA funded Geriatric Academic Career Award.
