Dr Chyun has a doctorate in chronic disease epidemiology. She has a long-standing interest in the importance of the individual, behavioral and psychological factors in relation to interdisciplinary CVD prevention and management in older adults with type 2 DM.
Dr. Chyun is a cardiovascular clinical specialist currently serving as Associate Professor and Director of the Florence S. Downs PhD Program in Nursing Research and Theory Development at the New York University College of Nursing.
Deborah Chyun’s area of research is the detection, prevention and management of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in adults, particularly older adults with type 2 diabetes. Her earlier work focused on DM-related morbidity and mortality after acute myocardial infarction (MI) in which studies highlighted the importance of health-promotion and preventive behaviors in this population. More recently, she served as a co-PI in the investigator-initiated, industry-sponsored Detection of Ischemia in Asymptomatic Diabetics (DIAD) Study (n=1123), a large, multicenter screening trial and was a co-investigator in an NIH funded (1R01NR05341) culturally sensitive intervention in American black women with type 2 DM.
